Roger Gastman at Ford & Ching
On November 3rd, Ford & Ching and 722 Figueroa hosted an installment of Creative Mornings at Night, a lecture series geared toward creative types. An eclectic mix of West Side design types, downtown artists and fabricators, business people, and fashionistas came to see a presentation and Q&A with Roger Gastman (best known for his work as consulting producer on "Exit through the Gift Shop" and co-curator of MOCA's "Art in the Streets" exhibition) and to spy the new RS3 foosball table by Spanish design company RS Barcelona.
"Roger represents a confluence where street art and the establishment cross over and communicate. It’s a very difficult place to be and he handles it very well," says Ford & Ching's Willard Ford. "One of my favorite parts of the events was when he was wrapping up his presentation and beginning to field audience questions. He left his final slide up, which was of an adult film star he interviewed for his magazine Swindle, for about 20 minutes and was completely at ease with that as the backdrop—the crowd loved it."
Canton, Ohio-born Robert Gastman was the featured speaker at the latest Creative Mornings at Night event. Originally from Canton, Ohio, he moved to Washington D.C. and became immersed in tagging. What was once a hobby turned into a full-fledged career.
