Grete Jalk Plywood Chair
1963 was a big one for Grete Jalk. That year, the Danish furniture designer debuted her Lounge Chair and Nesting Tables, won the Daily Mail International Furniture competition for their designs, and saw the set become a permanent piece in the New York MoMA’s collection.

But because of the complexity of the chairs’ design—it’s made from just two pieces of molded plywood—only 300 chairs were originally produced and by 2006, the year of Jalk’s death, few remained.
2008 has become another important year for the late designer. Copenhagen-based manufacturer Lange Productions procured exclusive rights to resume production of Jalk’s furniture and debuted the pieces at Orgatec this week in Cologne, Germany. To maintain the integrity of Jalk’s aesthetic, Lange Productions, which was founded in 2006 on the premise of manufacturing Fabricius & Kastholm’s classic steel and leather furniture, is creating the GJ chair and tables in the same factory, with the same tools, used in the 1960s to make the original furniture.
Jalk’s chair and tables are scheduled to be available in the United States by the end of 2008. For more information, visit Lange Productions.

Hi, I'm very interested in furniture design and I'm fond of the GJ chair since some years ago. How much does it cost? Can you send it to Uruguay? As I have just been married, I am decorating my new home and I want to have this chair . In the near future I'll probably open a furniture store and if you are interested I would like to offer this chair. Hoping to hearing from you soon, Sof'ia Lapenne
Great design! i love how the pattern of the wood goes when it is extremely bent like this. Really cool chairs and coffee tables!
Hi. This chair is really a testament to pushing a material to its limits. I have a question though. I currently am developing a new piece of furniture and i have some pretty tight radius in the design, similar to the radius on the GJ chair. How is the GJ chair being manufactured. do you know? i am presuming steam bending? am i correct?
I am the happy owner of one of these old fabulous Grete Jalk chairs, baught in Athens Greece, in 1967. I really adore this piece of furniture, but I didn' know that is so famous. I would be very grateful if I could know how much it costs nowadays. E.Fylaktou
