Green Depot Pop-Up Store
Earth Day has come and gone, but the celebration continues in New York. Sustainability is here to stay. And so is good design. And shopping. And home supplies. Just opened, as part of EarthFair 2009 in New York City's Grand Central Terminal, is a new "pop-up" store from Green Depot, your friendly neighborhood provider of "sustainable building products, services and solutions."

The 1,000 sq ft traveling salvage show of sustainability was designed by Mapos, a New York based interdisciplinary office that specializes in concepts and branding of architectural environments. Mapos also designed Green Depot's flagship store in Manhattan, and used that space as inspiration for the new modular shop, or "three dimensional brand experience." Built from scaffolding elements, the easy-to-assemble shop can be arranged and displayed in various configurations that give Green Depot a relatively cheap and flexible way to reach out to customers across the country - from trade floors to public spaces.
The pop-up is a high profile way for the company to continue its mission "to make quality, green products accessible so that green living and building can be easy, worthwhile and gratifying." One of the more notable features of the informative exhibition are Gordo Matta-Clark style building sections that illustrate how sustainable technologies can be integrated into your home. Green Depot's pop-up store will be shipped to Chicago after its stint in Grand Central Terminal's Vanderbuilt Hall.

This seems to be a part of a trend --taking used materials and transforming them into new forms. In Boston, there is a Puma store made out of old shipping containers near the ICA museum. Check it out here: http://tinyurl.com/c9o4k6
i'm glad everyone is in agreement that sustainability is here to stay! it's cool that this is in grand central terminal.. there is actually a cigar shop at grand central that has gone green (mygreenpalette.com/projects/detail/108) as well.
Green Depot has made big strides in New York to create the best green products and be apart of the green building world. The NYC flagship on Bowery is an amazing space. Great job going for LEED. We're working on some LEED projects, check us out at www.cleanedison.com
It is great to see that we are able to reuse and recycle materials to provided and market a better and healthier way of live.Being employed with Everblue Energy, which helps people gain the knowledge to ensure they are producing LEED certified buildings, allows me to know that resources like this Earth fair will help motivate others to start living protect the environment. This seems like a great event. As a native of New York, I would like to say good work having this available to the market and educated the public.
I've heard of a Green Depot style store in Austin. Any word if they are connected?
Nice to know to know that people still recycle. This market would rely kind of on that but, it's still nice to have one of these shops around to have people acknowledge what good use comes in recycling.
Cool to see the third R catching on.- taking used materials and transforming them into new things
Great to see the recycling or re-using being promoted like this.
It is good to recycle or re-use the things.
