YDesign’s New Bay Area Headquarters Inspire Collaboration in a Colorful Setting
As a design-driven company, it was necessary that YDesign Group—the parent company of online retailers Lumens, YLighting, and YLiving - partner with an interior design firm that would be able to replicate the company's culture and commitment to design in their Walnut Creek headquarters in California’s East Bay.
Kriste Michelini Interiors collaborated with YDesign Group to create a workplace that could bring the company’s own vision to life in a vibrant, modern office space. Given the company’s mission of bringing great design into spaces of work and play, it is only natural that YDesign Group would follow the same mantra in their new work space.
"Functionally, we wanted to create spaces that made collaborating and colliding a natural effect, whether at someone’s desk, in a kitchen, or at a ping pong table," says Sean Callahan, CEO of YDesign Group. "And we wanted each of those spaces to feel creative and inspired with our brand colors at the forefront and pieces from the design firms we know and love."
Inspired by YDesign’s own portfolio and the growing start-up scene in nearby Silicon Valley, Michelini conceptualized a contemporary office space that reflects not only the company itself, but incorporates benchmark office design solutions that will provide flexibility for ever-changing workplace standards.

The headquarters fill 20,000 square feet across two floors. Contemporary furniture installations and accessories carry throughout the space, cohesively tied together through combinations of gray, red, yellow, and orange—all of which work together to create a vibrant setting reflective of YDesign’s unique brand.
Simple white workstations combine with lively collaboration spaces. The variety of settings allows for both focused and collaborative work. Flexible, multipurpose spaces are incorporated throughout, including two cutting-edge kitchens that serve as gathering spots for lunch, informal meetings, or impromptu conversations.

These days, the integration of technology is a key component to a successful workplace. Here, Michelini discretely embedded screens into the ceiling that rise and descend as needed. Idea paint on the walls encourages innovation, providing additional writing space for impromptu brainstorming.
A successful collaboration between two design enthusiasts, a talented interior designer, and a design-driven client, has resulted in a forward-thinking, modern office space where employees can thrive.
