The Mansion Where “Little Women” Was Filmed Is Listed for $3.25M
In Lancaster, Massachusetts, one hour from Boston, a 21,802-square-foot Colonial Revival manor with 65 rooms has hit the market—offering with it the chance to own part of the set where director Greta Gerwig’s star-studded adaptation of Little Women (which will be in theaters this Christmas) was recently filmed.
The Little Women cast—which includes the likes of Emma Watson, Saoirse Ronan, and Meryl Streep—aren’t the only celebrities that have graced the mansion grounds. The estate was once home to the Maharishi Ayurveda Medical Center that reportedly served famous clientele such as Michael Jackson, Elizabeth Taylor, and George Harrison.
Built in 1904, the sumptuous mansion was designed by Guy Lowell, the architect behind Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts, as a summer home for the Thayer family.
In 1941, the property, also known as Hawthorne Hill, was sold to a Greek Orthodox seminary. Subsequent owners were mostly affiliated with religious or wellness organizations, such as the Roman Catholic Convent of the Cenacle, which owned the estate for two decades and added a two-story extension, as well as the aforementioned Maharishi Ayurveda Medical Center established by Dr. Deepak Choprain the 1980s.
The grounds also include an original Arts and Crafts–style carriage house, which is sold separately for $499,900.
679 George Hill Rd, Lancaster, MA 01523 is now being listed by Apple Country Team for $3,250,000. See the full listing here.
